Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. NIV
I heard someone once say that ‘air conditioning was to blame for our growing lack of community and neighborliness.’ Once we started getting comfortable inside with cool, humid-free air conditioning we stopped going outside. Instead of sitting outside on the stoop in hopes of a little breeze, to bring relief and refreshment we tucked ourselves inside, and consequently interacting with our neighbors became less and less.
Spending more time inside and less time outside, also lessened our looking up at the stars. The stars inspire marvel and awe. The stars inspire awe of a mighty God who creatively, intelligently, and delightfully places each of them (Isaiah 40:26). The stars inspire creativity and imagination. We connect the stars like kindergarten dot to dot exercises naming constellations we can identify; teacups, dippers, or bears. So many and vast are the stars, they can’t be counted yet God calls each forth by name (Psalm 147:4).
What we can’t do, God can. We can’t create stars, place them, count them or remember each of them by name. We can’t fully understand their purposes or compositions but we know they are there. Even on a cloudy, stormy night, we know the stars are there. We know they are only temporarily hidden by circumstances and when it’s the right time they will again reveal light, magnificence, assurance, unlimitedness, and glory.
When you need to remember how BIG our God is, go outside and look to the stars. Go online and search for images of constellations, solar systems, or galaxies. As you experience the awe, your soul will again experience peace and hope.
I truly believe that in our awe and appreciation of Him and His creation; be it the stars, the beach, a mountain, a porcupine, or a daisy, a supernatural tranquilizer is released that brings peace, hope, and renewal to our souls. There is nothing our God cannot do and He loves us!
Will you join me in marveling and appreciating our Creator and His creation, today?
Lord God, we are in awe of Your amazing creativity, complexity, and completeness. You placed the stars in the sky, the sand in the sea, the grasshopper on the twig, the fish in the ocean, and You rose Jesus from the dead, for us! We can’t thank You or appreciate You enough but we pray to grow in it. We pray to be purposeful about being in awe of You and remembering Your faithful love for us. Help us live in Your love, help us give Your love, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
Psalm 147:4 He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. NIV
Isaiah 40:26 Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. NIV
