MY HAMSTER – CHILDREN’S DEVOTION

Galatians 1:4 ‘Jesus ‘gave his life for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live.’ NLT

‘He’s mine, give him back to me,’ screamed eight-year-old Addy to her 15-year-old brother, Alex.

‘You have to clean my room first,’ said Alex.

‘Your room is nasty, I’m not doing it,’ declared Addy with her arms crossed in front of her chest.

‘Then you don’t get Teddy, your hamster back. He will live in my nasty room with all my cooties and germs and take a risk of getting sick, perhaps he’ll even die.’ Alex lifted Teddy’s cage high above his head so Addy couldn’t reach it. ‘That’s the deal one hamster for one clean room.’

Addy looked up at her hamster above Alex’s head and then at Alex’s room with all its smelly soccer clothes, old food containers, and empty Gatorade bottles. It would take forever, but Teddy was worth it.

‘Okay,’ she said slowly. ‘I’ll do it,’ and she entered Alex’s room tentatively. Alex took Teddy to the family room to play video games while Addy cleaned up Alex’s mess.

  • Alex was holding Teddy as a prisoner. Addy was willing to make a sacrifice to get Teddy back.
  • Alex didn’t want Teddy he was just using Teddy. Addy wanted Teddy, she thought of him as a friend.
  • Alex was selfish. Addy was thinking of Teddy. Alex didn’t care about him. How could she know Alex would even feed him?

Who do you think was more like Jesus? Who made a sacrifice so that we could be forgiven and go to heaven when we die? Who did Jesus rescue us from? Who makes a mess in our lives?

Matthew 20:28 “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” NLT

Thank You Jesus for rescuing us. Thank You Jesus for making a sacrifice for us. Thank You Jesus for cleaning up messes in our lives. Thank You, Jesus, that You call us friends. You are our best friend, we love You. In Your Name, we pray. Amen.
