“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Your heart must not be troubled or fearful.” John 14:27
We live in a broken world. We are a broken people. Every loss, disappointment, hurt, rejection leaves us more broken. Fear, insecurity, anxiety, worry, and repeated memories of our bad past experiences can keep us broken. Repetition of the same mistake over and over again may keep us broken. We may be broken people living in a broken world but we don’t have to live a life shattered in pieces. We have been given a special peace.
Jesus gifts us with a peace the world does not understand. Jesus has given us His peace. ‘My peace I give to you.’
Jesus came to earth, born as a baby, to live a life that would end in an excruciating death. He knew He would be broken for our sins. He would be crucified for the sins of an undeserving broken world. He would die for the sins of liars, cheats, serial killers, child molesters. He would die for the worst of us.
Yet, we never read about Jesus being worried, afraid, hopeless, or depressed in the gospels. The same peace that He lived with here on earth, He gives to us. He is called in Isaiah 9:6 our Prince of Peace. Peace has a name and it is Jesus.
We don’t have to manufacture peace, strive for peace, agonize for peace, we just need to receive peace.
Will you join me in asking for His peace to flood our beings today and always?
And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7
Father God, thank You that You offer us a peace that surpasses all understanding. A peace that in the most broken of situations can calm us, comfort us, and renew our hope, reassuring us that You are still our God, still on the throne, and working ALL things together for our good. Hallelujah. In the precious Name of the Prince of Peace, Jesus, we pray. Amen.
