‘We would like to have you over for dinner, Saturday,’ says a couple from church. “We are having a birthday party for my husband Friday night and we would like you to come.’ In the mail, is an embossed envelope with calligraphy and a burgundy seal closure, you are invited to celebrate a wedding. You may not be excited about the event but deep down you are glad to be asked. Even the extremest of shy introverts like to be invited even if they choose not to attend.
Being invited means we are accepted, we are liked, we are enjoyed, someone wants us. Being invited means we are included, noted, recognized, given a measure of value and importance by the host.
The greatest invitation we ever receive comes from the greatest host of all time, Jesus. He has sacrificially paid our way to the event of eternity. He has prepared beautiful music, rooms for our comfort, and a feast to celebrate who He is and what He has done – for us. There will be dignitaries, kings, people we’ve only read about and He wants us to attend. We will dine with Moses, Abraham, Joseph, and David. We will pass the platters to Peter, Paul, James, and John. Prayerfully, your loved ones will be there and some surprise guests; people you didn’t think would be there.
He is inviting us to have our sins forgiven, our pasts washed clean. He is inviting us to life everlasting. He is inviting us to live with peace, hope, love, value, worth, joy. He is inviting us to live with truth, His promises, and faithfulness. He is inviting us to be provided for and protected. It is the greatest invitation of all time.
Will you accept HIs invitation? Will you RSVP – yes, I will be in attendance. I pray you do! See you there.
Revelation 3:20
‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him and will dine with him, and he with Me.
