There is a term in the computer world ‘GIGO.’ It means garbage in, garbage out.
You understand this. If we input bad information we get unsatisfactory results. You’ve typed in the wrong password and you are locked out of your favorite game, email, phone, or file. You hand in a poor essay paper, you get a poor grade. If you finger the wrong note on a musical instrument you get a face wrenching sound. If you eat spoiled food, moldy food, or too much food, you get sick. If you type the wrong letter on a computer keyboard you get a misspelled word. You understand the saying ‘garbage in, garbage out.’
It is also a true saying for our relationships. If we lie, mislead, or deceive others, we are not trusted. If we are sarcastic, snarky, and lashing out on people, we hurt them. Think about the items we throw in the trash. We throw away those things that are broken, unused, spoiled, rotten, unwanted. Have you ever opened up a garbage can and closed the lid quickly because it stunk so bad? The putrid smell lingers, doesn’t it? Garbage stinks.
God hasn’t created us to be garbage cans. He has created us to have a sweet fragrance (2 Corinthians 2:14-16.)
Doubt, hate, unforgiveness, lying, envy, idol worship, evil are only a few of the pieces of garbage we may have in our hearts. Don’t save your garbage! Throwing it out makes more room for Him and don’t we want more of Him? You wouldn’t be reading this if you didn’t. And friend, He definitely wants more of us.
Let us toss out the GIGO (garbage in, garbage out) lifestyle and take on the SILO lifestyle, (Spirit In, Love Out).
“For whatever is in your heart determines what you say.” Matthew 12:34b NLT
Father God, please reveal to us the garbage we are carrying around and living in that we might toss it out and replace it with Your Truth, Your Spirit, Your good and perfect will for our lives. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
