God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? Numbers 23:19 ESV
‘Promise me you won’t tell Mom I was watching that video,’ your sister demands, holding her pinky finger out for you to link your pinky finger to.
‘Tonight, sneak out and meet me at the park at 11 pm. Wear dark clothes and bring a flashlight. Don’t let me down, promise?’ whispers your friend.
‘I promise I will help you study for this test,’ assures your friend.
Have you ever made a pinky promise or pinky swear? Have you shaken hands as an agreement of ‘let’s do it!’ Have you and another pricked your fingers and dropped blood on each other’s fingers as an act of promise? We often make promises to one another with every intention to keep them but we don’t, we fail to keep those promises.
Has someone made a promise to you and not kept it? How did it make you feel? Were you disappointed? Angry? Sad? Did you feel like you can’t trust them anymore?
Breaking a promise is another form of telling a lie. Someone lied saying they would do something and did not. They did not keep their word.
Gratefully, there is One who never lies and never fails to keep His promises. Our loving God is not human that He should lie. (Numbers 23:19 NIV). His Word is right and true and He is faithful in ALL He does (Psalm 33:4-5 NIV.) He will not violate His promises or alter what His lips have uttered (Psalm 89:34.) After all, He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, (John 14:6) He cannot lie.
We can trust Him, His Word, and His promises. He IS faithful.
Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You are not like man here on earth. Thank You that I can trust in Your Word, Your promises, Your heart. Thank You that You do not lie to me. Thank You for being real and true. Keep me rooted and grounded in Your truth and love, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
